Czech Republic February 2023: 6 Skodas in Top 6, Toyota up 67.2%, sales up 18.3%

Skoda Kodiaq sales are up 49.5% year-on-year in February.

New car sales in the Czech Republic soar 18.3% year-on-year in February to 16,826 units, lifting the year-to-date tally ip 11.4% to 33,963. Skoda (+14.2%) trails its home market slightly to end the month at 34.5% share like in January. Toyota (+67.2%) manages the largest gain in the Top 8 and climbs two spots on January to #2 with 9.3% share. It has overtaken Hyundai (+0.4%) and Volkswagen (+26.4%) down to #3 and #4 respectively. Kia (-0.4%) goes against the market at #5 while Mercedes (+66.7%) and Peugeot (+106.5%) race up. BMW (+31.6%) also beats the market to round out the Top 10. Below, Ssangyong (+73.9%) makes itself noticed at #13 and MG (#20) breaks into the Czech Top 20 for the second time after last September (#19).

Over in the models ranking, the Skoda Octavia (+19.2%) easily reclaims the top spot off the Skoda Fabia (-6.2%) with 8.6% share vs. 5.5%. It also overtakes the Fabia in the year-to-date order at 7.4% share vs. 6.1%. Skoda places 6 models in the Top 6 for the second time in the past four months. The Scala (+37.7%) is up one spot on January to #3, the Kamiq (+18.5%) is up two to #4, the Karoq (+47.1%) up three to #5 and the Kodiaq (+49.5%) down three to #6. The Hyundai Tucson (-24.7%), albeit in great difficulty year-on-year, is the best-selling foreign nameplate this month at #7. It distances the Hyundai i30 (+18%) and Toyota Corolla (+142.3%). The MG ZS is up 80 ranks to top recent launches at #21, a new ranking record.
