New Caledonia (France) Full Year 2022: Toyota and Hilux tighten grip on market up 1.2%

New Caledonia is a French archipelago located North East of Australia. New light vehicle sales here are up 1.2% year-on-year to 8,336 units. Toyota (+39.3%) vastly outpaces the market to surge from 15.3% share a year ago to 21.1% now. Peugeot (-10.7%) is up one spot to #2 while Citroen (+8.9%) is up four to #3 ahead of Ford (-10%) and Kia (+32.3%) up four ranks to #5. Dacia (-33.9%), Renault (-21.2%) and Hyundai (-11.4%) are all in freefall whereas Suzuki (+60.3%) scores the largest gain in the Top 10 and advances to #9. Chinese manufacturers continue to progress at +20.7% to 9.8% share vs. 8.2% a year ago. They are led by MG (#13 but #3 in December), FAW (#14), Geely (#16) and Changan (#17).

Model-wise, the Toyota Hilux (+32.2%) tightens its grip on the market to 8.5% share vs. 6.5% a year ago. The Dacia Duster (-6.5%) stays in the second spot at 5.1% share vs. 5.6% in 2021, with the Ford Ranger (+7.2%) ensuring the 2022 podium is identical to last year’s. The Toyota Raize (+355.6%) ends its first full year of sales at a splendid 4th place with 3% of the market, distancing the Toyota RAV4 (+23.8%) up three spots to #5 and the Peugeot 208 (-4%) stable at #6. The rest of the Top 10 all outraces the market with double-digit gains at least: the Suzuki Swift (+107.1%) and Hyundai Tucson (+94.7%) are the most impressive followed by the Kia K2700 (+24.3%) and Citroen C3 (+14.4%). Note the MG 3 launched in December and directly landed in the pole position that month.
