Media post: The 4 Best Types of Vehicles to go Camping

When it comes to planning a camping trip, one of the most important considerations is transportation. You need a vehicle that is capable of getting you to your campsite, and ideally, one that can also serve as a makeshift campsite itself. There are a few different types of vehicles that are particularly well-suited for camping. In this article, we will discuss the best options so you can choose the best car to buy if you are an avid camper.

1 – SUV

If you don’t mind roughing it a bit, a van or SUV with rooftop tents might be the way to go. These setups are typically more affordable than RVs or truck campers, and they offer a good amount of flexibility.

The tent can be easily set up or taken down as needed, and the vehicle can be used for transportation and storage. However, they do require a bit more effort to set up and take down, and they are not as comfortable as an RV or truck camper.

Just make sure that the SUV is one that can handle a bit of rough terrain since you will need to get it to where you plan to pitch. Since the tent is part of the SUV, you will need to make sure that it can handle the trail to get where you plan to sleep. Expect it to get fairly dirty by driving over some dirt trails so have a plan to clean it up after. It’s nothing that a little elbow grease can’t handle since you can even remove road paint yourself.

2 – RV or camper

One of the most obvious choices for a camping vehicle is an RV. These vehicles come in a wide range of sizes and styles, from small, towable trailers to large, self-contained motorhomes.

RVs offer the ultimate in comfort and convenience, with features like kitchens, bathrooms, and sleeping quarters all built right in. They are also relatively easy to drive, although you will need to get a special license if you plan to operate one that is particularly large.

3 – Pick-up truck

Another option to consider is a pickup truck with a camper shell. These setups offer a good balance of versatility and comfort, as the camper shell provides a protected space to sleep in, while the pickup truck can be used for transportation and storage.

This type of setup is particularly well-suited for off-road camping, as the truck can handle rough terrain and the camper shell provides some protection from the elements. It is also easy to retrofit a pickup for off-roading by getting it lifters and a winch package.

4 – Trailer tent

For those who want to go even more minimal, a small, lightweight trailer can be a great option. These trailers can be easily towed by a car or truck, and they offer a simple, no-frills way to camp. They typically don’t have any amenities like kitchens or bathrooms, but they do provide a protected space to sleep in.

No matter which type of vehicle you choose, there are a few key things to keep in mind when camping. Finally, be sure to follow all local camping regulations, and respect the natural environment by practicing Leave No Trace principles.
