Ireland Full Year 2022: Hyundai Tucson repeats at #1 in stable market (+0.3%)

The Hyundai Tucson is once again the most popular vehicle in Ireland.

The Irish new car market edges up 0.3% year-on-year in 2022 to 105,253 registrations. Toyota (+23%) vastly outpaces the market to reach 15.2% share vs. 12.4% a year ago while Hyundai (+18.3%) is equally impressive at #2 with 12.1% share vs. 10.2%. Still #1 in 2020, Volkswagen (-7%) drops to #3 this year. Kia (+19.7%) also shines and gains two spots on last year to climb to #4. Skoda (-15.7%) and Ford (-31.9%) slow down to #5 and #6 as a result. Audi (+2.1%) is the only additional gainer in the Top 10, with Nissan (-15.3%), Peugeot (-14.7%) and BMW (-8.3%) all falling. Citroen (+70.5%), Dacia (+54.8%), Tesla (+52.7%) and Volvo (+26.8%) shine below.

The Hyundai Tucson (+17.7%) repeats at #1 in the models charts and improves its share to 6.1%. It is the fifth time in the past 7 years the Tucson is the outright best-seller in Ireland (add 2016 to 2018). The Toyota Corolla (-4.2%) remains in 2nd place but its gap with the Tucson doubles from 1,106 to 2,253 units. The Kia Sportage (+68.1%) is lifted seven spots to #3 by the new generation while the Toyota C-HR (+19.9%) is also dynamic at #4. The VW ID.4 (+108.3%) more than doubles its sales year-on-year and leaps up 14 ranks to #5, distancing three Toyotas: the RAV4 (+13.4%), Yaris (-0.7%) and Yaris Cross (+1774.4%). The Yaris Cross ends its first full year of sales at #8. The Hyundai Kona (+8.5%) and Skoda Kodiaq (+10.7%) also break into the Top 10.
