Indonesia November 2022: Honda Brio takes control of market slowing down its growth (+4.2%)

The Honda Brio is now the best-selling vehicle year-to-date.

After five months of double-digit gains, new vehicle wholesales in Indonesia edge up a timid 4.2% year-on-year in November to 91,086 units. This leads to a year-to-date tally up 19.2% to 942,499. Retail sales are up 3.7% to 87,633 for the month and up 19.4% to 909,653 through November.

In the wholesales brands ranking, Toyota (-20.9%) goes completely against the market with a drastic slump to 29.1% share vs. 32.2% so far this year. In contrast Daihatsu (+30.7%) is up to 23% share with almost 21,000 units, a level it hadn’t hit since October 2018 (21,206). Honda (+62.4%) scores an every more spectacular gain and stays in #3. Mitsubishi (+6.6%) slightly outpaces the market whereas Suzuki (-4.1%) and Fuso (-24.1%) lose ground year-on-year. Below, Hyundai (+420.8%), Isuzu (+28%) and Hino (+22.5%) shine.

In the retail charts, Toyota (-8.5%) thins its loss but remains in negative while Daihatsu (+1.8%) slows its growth significantly compared to wholesales. Honda (+73.3%) is euphoric here too with Suzuki (-5.7%) and Mitsubishi (-16.2%) down. Hyundai (+645.4%) posts another stunning growth but goes down four spots on October to #10. Hino (+44.9%) and Isuzu (+5.7%) also beat the market in the remainder of the Top 10.

Model-wise, the Honda Brio (+161.8%) surges up to 7.8% share and grabs the year-to-date pole position  off the Toyota Avanza (-52.7%) as a result. The Daihatsu Sigra (+96.8%) also lodges a fantastic performance in 2nd place, up six spots on last month. The Suzuki Carry Pikap (-1.2%) rounds out the podium vs. #7 in October, distancing the Daihatsu Gran Max Pikap (+28.7%) and the Toyota Rush (-28.5%) in outstanding shape. The Toyota Veloz (+92825%) celebrates one year in market at #8 with the Mitsubishi Xpander (+56.7%) and Toyota Calya (+25.1%) showing great health in the remainder of the Top 10.
