Kazakhstan July 2022: Chery up to record #6, Chevrolet Cobalt at 24% share

The Chery Tiggo 7 Pro is the best-selling newcomer in Kazakhstan in July.

New vehicle sales in Kazakhstan return to positive in July at 11,637 registrations, with a very satisfying +9.1% year-on-year, all the more impressive given July 2021 was already up 41.9% on the year prior. The year-to-date tally now stands at 63,357 units, down -5.4% on the same period a year ago. In the brands ranking, Chevrolet (+29.4%) keeps the lead but sees its share return from 43.6% to a more reasonable 34.4% for the month. It enables the carmaker to snap the year-to-date lead off Hyundai, up 29.9% for the month in 2nd place. Kia (+11%) also edges past the market but Toyota (-24.7%) struggles below. Lada (+30.3%), Lexus (+475%) and JAC (+19.7%) all impress. Chery, launched in December 2021, is up three spots on June to a record 6th place just as sister brand Exeed three-eats at an all-time high #10.

Model-wise, the Chevrolet Cobalt (+79.8%) retains the top spot with 24% of the market, its second highest share below the 24.6% it hit last May. The Chevrolet Nexia (-23.2%), despite being down significantly year-on-year, has left enough of a gap above the below models to rise from #5 to #2 year-to-date. The Kia Sportage (+216.2%), Hyundai Tucson (+275%) and Toyota Prado (+342.3%) all post surreal gains in the remainder of the Top 5. The rest of the Top 9 is composed exclusively of Hyundais: the Sonata (+56.9%), Santa Fe (+269.6%), Creta (+39.6%) and Elantra (+82%), all vastly beating the market. The Lada Granta (+2023.1%) compensates for a particularly low year-ago volume. The Chery Tiggo 7 Pro (#12) is the best-selling newcomer above the Chery Tiggo 8 and Exeed VX.
