Ireland August 2022: VW ID.4 best-seller in euphoric market (+36.6%)

After three consecutive months of double-digit declines, the Irish new car market is back in positive in August with a flamboyant 36.6% year-on-year lift to 8,150 registrations. The year-to-date tally remains in negative for now at -2.1% to 95,173 units. Volkswagen (+91.3%) holds onto the top spot with a spectacular 17.3% market share to be compared to 10.8% so far this year. It distances Skoda (+62.9%) and the year-to-date leader Toyota (+23.4%). Kia (-10.7%) is in serious trouble at #4 whereas Renault (+131.7%) is up 7 spots on July to #5 and Audi (+71%), Peugeot (+66.4%) and Opel (+56.2%) also beat the market.

Over in the models ranking, the VW ID.4 (+369.6%) is the overall best-seller for the 2nd time after its launch month in March 2021. It distances the Kia Sportage (+101.2%), Renault Clio (+1555.6%) and Renault Captur (+611.1%) all posting surreal year-on-year gains. Below, the Opel Crossland (+551.7%), Ford Focus (+239.6%), VW Tiguan (+114%) VW T-Roc (+75%) and Skoda Octavia (+47.2%) also outpace the market in the remainder of the Top 10.The Toyota Yaris Cross (#26) remains the best-selling recent launch in the country despite dropping 20 spots on July, ahead of the Dacia Jogger (#34), Kia EV6 (#42) and VW ID.5 (#55).
