Finland August 2022: Skoda Octavia leads, Peugeot 2008 on podium, sales down -7.8%

The Peugeot 2008 is up to #3 in Finland in August.

The Finnish new car market is down -7.8% year-on-year in August to 7,005 units, bringing the year-to-date tally down -21.4% to 54,980. Toyota (-17.5%) continues to dominate the brands ranking head and shoulders at 14.6% share despite a steep year-on-year fall. Volkswagen (-7.9%) holds 10.9% share vs. 8.9% year-to-date where it is now #2 above Kia (-14.5%). Skoda (+10.8%) is up one spot on July to #3 while Volvo (+21.4%) rounds out the Top 5 like YTD. Peugeot (+132.3%), Mercedes (+15.2%) and Nissan (+2.1%) also defy the negative market with year-on-year lifts. Below, Tesla (+294.1%), Honda (+68.4%), Fiat (+67.4%), Cupra (+57.1%), Suzuki (+27.8%), Subaru (+24%), Citroen (+13.2%) and Renault (+12.9%) stand out.

Model-wise, the Skoda Octavia (+31.9%) manages its first monthly win since April 2021 at 3.9% share vs. 2.1% so far this year where it remains at a low 9th place. The Toyota Yaris (-21.7%) stays in 2nd place while the performer of the month is the Peugeot 2008 (+303.8%) up 4-fold year-on-year to land in third place overall. Leader year-to-date, the Toyota Corolla (-54.8%) slices its August 2021 volume in two and falls to #4 for the month. In contrast the Volvo XC40 (+54.8%) and Toyota C-HR (+20.7%) are both in frank positive territory. The new Toyota Yaris Cross is back up three ranks on July to #7 above the Toyota RAV4 (-35.7%) making it five Toyotas in the Top 8. The Skoda Enyaq (+132.8%) and Nissan Leaf round out the Top 10.
