New Caledonia (France) July 2022: Duster, Hilux, Yaris top freefalling market (-33.8%)

The Toyota Yaris is up to third place in New Caledonia in July.

New Caledonia is a French overseas archipelago located northwest of Australia. Its new light vehicle market in July is down a very steep -33.8% year-on-year to just 677 sales, almost identical to its June volume (678). The year-to-date tally however remains in positive, but just: +0.7% or 34 units above the same period last year. Toyota (-13.6%) resists a lot better than the market and remains ultra-dominant at 24.4% share, its 4th incursion above the symbolic 20% share milestone this year. Peugeot (+23%) braves the negative market to climb to #2 overall with 11.1% share vs. 7.3% so far this year. Dacia (-46.4%) freefalls but is up four spots month-on-month to #3. Suzuki (+61.8%) realises the largest year-on-year gain in the Top 10 with Citroen (-18.4%), Subaru (-25%) and Kia (-31.8%) the other Top 10 brands beating the market. Newcomer Geely is up 17 ranks on June to land at #11 and #1 Chinese above FAW (#13) and BYD (#14).

Over in the models ranking, the Dacia Duster (-7.8%) snaps the top spot off the Toyota Hilux (-52.6%) while the Toyota Yaris (+280%) surges from outside the June Top 20 directly into third place. The Suzuki Swift (+113.3%) is up 20 spots to #4 while the Peugeot 208 (-20%) is up four to #5. The Toyota Land Cruiser (+43.8%) and Peugeot Partner (+150%) also sport fantastic year-on-year lifts in the remainder of the Top 10. However the Ford Ranger (-59.1%) implodes. Below, notice the Geely Emgrand landing at #12 and the Peugeot Boxer (+166.7%), Suzuki Ignis (+100%) and Citroen Jumpy (+85.7%) all in outstanding shape.
