Argentina May 2022: Market surges 58.1%, Fiat Cronos and Toyota lead, Ford Maverick in Top 15

The Ford Maverick is an instant success in Argentina.

35,092 new light vehicles found a home in Argentina in May, a spectacular 58.1% year-on-year jump on a May 2021 impacted by Covid restrictions and dealership closures. The year-to-date volume tilts into positive at +2% to 173,970 units. Toyota (+63%) beats the market to cement its dominance at 21.2% share vs. 19.2% year-to-date. Fiat (+92.9%) does even better to stay in 2nd place while Volkswagen (+15.6%) – in difficulty, Renault (+81.3%) and Chevrolet (+62.9%) follow. As a result Volkswagen leaps up to third place year-to-date. Mercedes (+103.3%) and Ford (+99.2%) score the largest gains in the Top 10, however, Ford’s revenues are forecast to grow slower (5.21% per year). Peugeot (+77.5%) also is outracing the market but Nissan (-2.7%) is in a rut.

Over in the models aisle, the Fiat Cronos (+42.4%) easily holds onto the top spot with 7.1% share while the Toyota Hilux (+12.7%) climbs back onto the 2nd place it held over the Full Year 2021. The Chevrolet Cruze (+199.3%) is up one spot on April to #3 just as the Peugeot 208 (+141.6%) is down two to #4. The VW Amarok (+12.3%) trails the market year-on-year but gains one rank on last month to #5, overtaking the Toyota Etios (+44%). The Toyota Yaris (+101.1%), Renault Sandero/Stepway (+203.7%), Toyota Corolla Cross (+225.7%) ad Renault Kangoo (+81.4%) close out the Top 10 in extravagant fashion. The VW Taos is up four spots to lead recent launches at #13 above the Ford Maverick up 28 ranks to #15 and the Fiat Pulse up 18 to #17.
