New Caledonia (France) April 2022: Toyota (+120.3%) hits 21.4% share in market down -7.3%

Toyota Yaris sales are up 141.7% in a market down -7.3%

The new car market in New Caledonia, a French overseas archipelago located north-east of Australia, is down -7.3% year-on-year in April to 711 sales, however thanks to a good start of the year, the year-to-date volume remains up 15.8% to 2,703 units. In the brands ranking, Toyota (+120.3%) scores the largest year-on-year gain in the Top 18 to tighten its grip over the market with 21.4% share, almost three times as many sales as any other carmaker in market. Citroen (-34.5%) is up four spots on March but down significantly year-on-year as it held the top spot in April 2021. Similarly, Peugeot (-19.3%) is up six ranks on last month to #3 but loses share year-on-year. Renault (+22.9%), Kia (+13.5%), Nissan (+10.3%) and Suzuki (+5.6%) also manage gains in the remainder of the Top 10 whereas Dacia (-51.4%) and Hyundai (-47.6%) implode.

Over in the brands ranking, the Toyota Hilux (+166.7%) remains ultra-dominant at 7.9% share while the Dacia Duster (-44.2%) stays in 2nd place, selling the same amount as the Ford Ranger (+26.1%) and Toyota Yaris (+141.7%) in outstanding shape. The Mitsubishi Sportero (-11.5%) comes from outside the March Top 30 directly to #5, distancing the Citroen Berlingo (+33.3%) and C3 (-50%) showing opposite fortunes. The Suzuki Swift (+54.5%) also shines in the remainder of the Top 10. The Toyota Raize (#12) is the best-selling recent launch (<12 months) ahead of the Renault Kwid down 22 spots to #25.
