Denmark April 2022: Hyundai i10 leads, Polestar 2 and Cupra Formentor in Top 10, sales down -29%

The Polestar 2 is up to #9 in Denmark in April.

The Danish new car market continues to freefall in April: -29% to just 11,015 sales leading to a year-to-date volume off -23.9% to 45,248. Volkswagen (-34.3%) falls even faster than the market which has been the case in a lot of European markets we have updated this month. It however remains atop the Danish brands ranking above Mercedes (+3.1%) and Hyundai (+22%) going against the market with year-on-year upticks. Peugeot (-39.4%) and Toyota (-34%) aren’t that lucky and round out the Top 5. Renault (+79%) is the only additional (and best) gainer in the Top 10, up 8 spots on March to #10. BMW (-58.6%) and Skoda (-41.7%) are hit particularly hard this month. Further down, Cupra (+535.3%) overtakes Seat (-64.1%) for the first time while Polestar (+4100%) is up 7 ranks on last month to #17. Honda (+660%) and Land Rover (+200%) also post surreal gains below.

Model-wise, the Hyundai i10 (+130.3%) shoots up to first place for the first time in the history of the nameplate (previous best: #2 in December 2018), and is up two ranks on last month. The Peugeot 208 (-34.4%) is back up to the 2nd spot it holds year-to-date despite a sharp fall. It still performs better than the Citroen C3 (-49%) losing almost half its April 2021 volume but keeping the YTD top spot. The Kia Ceed (+15.8%) is up 9 spots on March to #4 while the VW T-Roc (+4.2%) and Mercedes C-Class (+33%) follow with year-on-year lifts. The heroes of the month are below: the Polestar 2 (+4100%) and Cupra Formentor (+491.2%) break into the Danish Top 10 for the first time at #9 and #10 respectively. The Skoda Enyaq (#17, +15) tops recent launches above the VW Taigo (#20, +9), Renault Arkana (#22, +68), Ford Mustang Mach-E (#27, +3) and Toyota Yaris Cross (#34, -6).
