Czech Republic April 2022: Ssangyong Korando, Cupra Formentor stand out in market down -22.5%

The Ssangyong Korando is up to #12 overall in the Czech Republic in April.

New car sales in the Czech Republic drop -22.5% year-on-year in April to 14,714 units which leads to a year-to-date tally down -9.3% to 62,105. Local behemoth Skoda (-36.6%) falls a lot faster than its home market, resulting in a thinned down share at 28.7% vs. 33.6% so far this year. Hyundai defies the market gloom with a 12% year-on-year uptick, reinforcing its 2nd place with 11.3% share vs. 9.8% YTD. Volkswagen (-33.3%) falls hard whereas Kia (+21.9%) and Toyota (+12.6%) shine. In fact it’s Dacia (+38.7%) that sports the largest year-on-year gain in the Top 10, staying at #6 vs. #9 over the Full Year 2021. All other Top 10 members fall by the double-digits, with BMW (-12.9%) and Renault (-20.4%) containing their decline somewhat unlike Mercedes (-38.7%) and Ford (-31.2%). Just outside the Top 10, Opel (+8.3%) signs a solid score just as Ssangyong (+432.2%) shoots up to #12 overall, the brand’s best ranking in Europe. Cupra (+402.2%) also leaps ahead to less than 75 units off mother brand Seat (-60.9%) in deep trouble.

Model-wise, Skoda has 6 models in the Top 7, with the Fabia (-25.9%) overall leader albeit by just over 100 sales over the Hyundai i30 (+6.6%) in very good shape. The Skoda Octavia (-53.2%) rallies back up 7 spots on March to rank #3 but remains in year-on-year freefall. The Skoda Superb (-5.2%), Scala (-14.5%), Karoq (-51.5%) and Kodiaq (-16.2%) follow. The Hyundai Tucson (+0.2%) and Kia Ceed (+10.6%) both manage positive results while the Skoda Kamiq (-61.4%) rounds out the Top 10. Just below, notice the outstanding performances of the Ssangyong Korando (#12) and Cupra Formentor up 452.5% to #13 and outselling all Seat models (the Arona ranks at #15). The Dacia Jogger breaks into the Top 20 at #17.
