Netherlands March 2022: Volvo XC40 (+38.2%) leads, Fiat 500 (+88.2%) impresses, sales up 3.8%

The Volvo XC40 is the best-selling model in the Netherlands in March.

The Dutch new car market edges up 3.8% year-on-year in March to 24,959 sales, leading to a year-to-date volume down -2.5% to 78,539. Kia (+32%) secures a 10th win in the past 12 months with 9.9% share vs. 9% year-to-date, it distances BMW (+7.4%) up two spots to #2 and Peugeot (-3.7%) staying at #3. Volkswagen (-28.3%) is up two ranks to #4 despite a year-on-year freefall, ahead of Toyota (-15.1%) in trouble and Volvo (+21.7%) shining. Hyundai (+123.9%), Audi (+58.7%) and Skoda (+10.7%) are also impressive in the remainder of the Top 10 just as Mercedes (-7.1%) underperforms. MG (+147.4%), Fiat (+89.1%), Polestar (+59.3%), Dacia (+55.9%), Suzuki (+50.8%), Porsche (+47.9%), Mazda (+42.9%), Tesla (+37.2%) and Nissan (+31.5%) make themselves noticed further down.

Model-wise, the Top 8 models all sport double-digit, market-beating gains. The Volvo XC40 (+38.2%) takes control of the charts both for the month and YTD, the Kia Picanto (+14.5%) follows ahead of the Fiat 500 (+88.2%) posting the largest gain. The Peugeot 208 (+19.7%) ranks 4th above the Kia Niro (+38%), Peugeot 2008 (+18.7%), Mini (+30%) and Nissan Qashqai (+39.3%). The new Skoda Enyaq and Audi Q4 round out the Top 10, improving 17 and 12 spots respectively on February. As far as other new models are concerned, the Toyota Yaris Cross (#15), Tesla Model Y (#23), Kia EV6 (#24), Lynk & Co 01 (#32) and Hyundai Ioniq 5 (#58) are in tow.
