Ireland March 2022: First market uptick of the year at +40.7%, Toyota places Yaris and Corolla on top

The Toyota Yaris is the most successful model in Ireland in March.

The Irish new car market shoots up 40.7% year-on-year in March to 12,933 units, its first YoY uptick of the year. The year-to-date total now stands at 49,926, up 3.8% over the First Quarter of 2021. Toyota shoots up 253.6% year-on-year to 21.2% share vs. 18.9% so far in 2022 and reclaims the top spot it holds year-to-date. Hyundai (+77.4%) also outpaces the market but is down one spot on last month to #2 while Kia (+103.7%) stays at #3. Peugeot (+103.3%), Mercedes (+52.4%) and Audi (+43.3%) also gain share year-on-year in the remainder of the Top 10 whereas Volkswagen (-26.6%) and Skoda (-7.1%) miss out on the market euphoria. Cupra (+900%), Fiat (+261.5%), Tesla (+189.3%) and Lexus (+184.2%) also impress further down.

Over in the models ranking, the Toyota Yaris (+453.4%) and Corolla (+149%) justify Toyota’s dominance by topping the charts, toppling the Hyundai Tucson (+78.6%) from its pedestal. The Tucson however comfortably remains in the YTD pole position. The Toyota C-HR (+401.6%) and Kia Sportage (+302.3%) round out the Top 5 in extremely dynamic fashion. The Toyota RAV4 (+78.7%) follows also in outstanding shape while the Toyota Yaris Cross is back up 10 spots on last month to #7 and reclaims the title of best-selling recent launch in the country. The Skoda Kodiaq (+52.4%), Peugeot 3008 (+99.3%) and Ford Puma (+131.1%) also beat the market below. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 (#14), Tesla Model Y (#21), Kia EV6 (#24) and Renault Arkana (#43) are the next most successful recent launches.
