India March 2022: Tata, Kia, Nexon and Punch break volume records in stable market (+0.3%)

The Tata Punch breaks its volume and ranking records in March.

The Indian new wholesales market is stable in March at +0.3% to 321,375 units, its first year-on-year uptick since August 2021. The year-to-date volume is now down -1.5% to 918.899 sales. Once again Maruti Suzuki (-8.4%) and Hyundai (-15.2%) fare much worse than the market to 41.7% and 13.9% share  respectively. In contrast, Tata (+42.6%) posts another euphoric result and now stands only 2,300 saes below Hyundai vs. 4,000 last month, it also breaks its volume record at 44,600. Mahindra (+64.5%) does even better and consolidates its 4th position. In 5th place, Kia (+18.4%) breaks its all-time volume record at 22,622, it is followed by Toyota (+14.2%) also very dynamic. However Renault (-31.1%) and Honda (-7.2%) struggle. Skoda (+384.7%) is up 5-fold on March 2021 thanks to the new Kushaq and Slavia (see below). MG (-14.6%) rounds out the Top 10 but drops significantly. Below, Volkswagen (+81.3%) stands out thanks to the new Taigun.

The Mahindra XUV700 also hits an all-time high this month.

Model-wise, the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R (+31.3%) returns to #1 both for the month and year-to-date, it distances the Maruti Suzuki DZire (+62.9) also in fantastic shape and the Baleno (-31.6%) struggling. Both the Tata Nexon (+64.9%) and Punch break their volume record at 14,315 and 10,526 respectively, ranking at all-time high #4 and #8 respectively. The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza (+10.3%) is the only gainer in the remainder of the Top 10. Below, the Toyota Innova Crysta (+37.9%) lodges its highest volume since July 2018, the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso manages a 8.5% uptick while the new Kia Carens breaks its volume record at 7,008 and the Mahindra Scorpio (+160%) is at its highest since September 2017. The Mahindra XUV700 (6,040) and Skoda Slavia (2,665) also hit all-time highs this month.
