Philippines Full Year 2021: Toyota monopolises Top 6 in market up 18.6%

The Toyota Vios remains the best-selling vehicle in the Philippines.

New light vehicle sales in the Philippines advance 18.6% year-on-year in 2021 to 294,223 units. Toyota (+29.7%) strengthens its stranglehold on the market and improves its share from 40.1% in 2020 to 43.9% this year. Mitsubishi (+2.9%) drops two percentage points of share to 13.1%. Ford (+35.4%) leaps up three spots to land on the third step of the podium while Nissan (-9.9%) recedes one rank to #4 and Suzuki (+25%) stays at #5. Isuzu (+28.3%) outpaces the market and gains two spots to #6 whereas Honda (-8.3%) and most strikingly Hyundai (-40%) underperform. The Chinese post the largest gains in the Top 10: MG is at +84.8% and Geely at +182.9%. Volkswagen (+149.2%), Ssangyong (+111.5%), Kia (+76%) and Chevrolet (+64.2%) also impress further down.

Model-wise, Toyota monopolises the Top 6 for the first time, with the Vios (+38.8%) improving to 11.9% share vs. 10.2% in 2020, the Hilux (+39.1%) up to 6.4% and the Wigo (+47.6%) up to 5.9% in third place. They are followed by the Innova (+26.1%) ensuring the Top 4 remains unchanged on 2020, the Fortuner (+52.8%) up 6 spots to #5 and the Rush (+23.2%) up one to #6. The Mitsubishi Xpander (+8.6%) is down two to #7 and remains the best-selling non-Toyota in the country. The Mitsubishi L300 (+49.4%) cracks the Top 10 at #9 while the Ford Territory (+257.5%) ends its first full year in market at #12 vs. #30 in 2020. The MG ZS (+117%), Suzuki Dzire (+98.9%), Carry (+78.2%) and S-Presso (+77.7%) also shine in the remainder of the Top 30. The Geely Okavango is the best-selling 2021 launch at #30 ahead of the Suzuki Jimny at #31.
