Netherlands February 2022: Kia leads, places Picanto and Niro atop market up 5.7%

The Kia Picanto is the best-selling vehicle in the Netherlands in February.

New car sales in the Netherlands are back up 5.7% year-on-year in February to 22,860 units, but keep in mind February 2021 sales were off -26.3% on the year prior. Kia (+38.6%) is up three spots on January to take the lead of the brands ranking for the 9th time in the past 11 months with 10.9% share. Toyota (+26.7%) follows in 2nd place while Peugeot (-2.1%) rounds out the podium like last month. BMW (+37.4%) and Hyundai (+164.8%) both post fantastic gains but the remainder of the Top 10 is down, with Ford (-20.8%), Volkswagen (-20.1%) and Renault (-13.6%) the hardest hit. Volkswagen falls to a paltry 6th place after ranking #1 in December and over the Full Year 2021. Below, MG (+266.7%), Tesla (+112.8%) Porsche (+44.7%), DS (+44.1%), Polestar (+41.3%), Honda (+40%), Audi (+22%) and Nissan (+14.9%) stand out. Recently launched Lynk & Co (#19) returns inside the Top 20 for the 6th time in the past 7 months.

Over in the models ranking, Kia places the Picanto (+25.5%), up 17 spots on January, and Niro (+40.9%), up seven, atop the charts, the only models to manage a market share above 3%. As a result the Kia Niro tales the YTD lead in the Netherlands. The Volvo XC40 rallies back up 11 ranks on last month to land on the third step of the podium above last month’s market leader the Peugeot 2008 (+34.5%). The Peugeot 208 (+30.4%) and Toyota Yaris (+38.7%) score great year-on-year gains as do the Ford Focus (+40.1%) and BMW 3 Series (+58.1%). The Lynk & Co 01 returns inside the Top 10 for the 4th time in the past 6 months. Notice also the Toyota Yaris Cross down 10 ranks on January to #12, the Hyundai Tucson (+267.1%) up 15 to #14, the Audi Q4 up 70 to #22 and the Skoda Enyaq up 36 to #26.
