Egypt Full Year 2021: Chevrolet T-Series manages 8th straight win in market up 26.5%

The Egyptian new vehicle market continues to feel the effects of a raft of free trade agreements secured recently which have removed significant import duties and lowered the price of vehicles. 2021 volumes are up a whopping 26.5% year-on-year to 277,901 units, while 2020 figures were already up 20.2% on the year prior. Chevrolet (+12.6%) remains by far the most popular brand in this market but continues to see its market share slide down, from 16.7% in 202 to 14.9% this year. Nissan (+28.7%) passes Toyota (+16.3%) to grab the 2nd place overall while Hyundai (+27.3%) roughly matches the market to remain at #4. MG (+55.3%) advances one spot to #5 while Suzuki (+239.8%) delivers the largest gain in the Top 10, distancing Kia (+57.9%) and Chery (+65.7%) also in outstanding shape. Finally Peugeot (+67%) breaks into the Top 10 at #10. Meanwhile Renault (-50.9%), #5 in 2020, is knocked out of the Top 10.
Model-wise, the Chevrolet “Tank” T-Series (+31.9%), aka 2-door 2WD previous generation Isuzu D-Max, manages an 8th consecutive annual win, improving to 9.8% share. The Nissan Sunny (+32.5%) overtakes the Toyota Corolla (+7%) for #2 just as the Fiat Tipo (-2.6%) loses ground but remains in 4th position. The Kia Sportage (+55%), MG5 (+78.1%) and Hyundai Tucson (+50.3%) all post market-beating up upticks to rank #5, #6 and #7 respectively, while the Suzuki Swift leaps from outside the 2020 Top 20 directly to 9th place. The BYD F3 (+68.6%) is up 8 ranks to break into the Top 10 at #10. Other great performers include the MG ZS (+40%), Chery Tiggo 7 (#12) and Peugeot 3008 (#16).
