Chile January 2022: Chery up to #2, Tiggo 2 leads in market up 49.2% to record January

The Chery Tiggo 2 Pro has landed in Chile.

The Chilean new vehicle market continues on its fantastic run with January sales up 49.2% to a record 37,281 units. Passenger cars are up only 16.3% year-on-year to 10,641, SUVs up 51.1% to 14,461, pickups up 90.2% to 7,208 and vans up 100.9% to 4,971. In the brands ranking, despite losing ground year-on-year Chevrolet (-2.4%) reclaims the top spot for the first time since last October, distancing Chery (+188%) which almost triples its sales year-on-year. Leader last month, Suzuki (+11.2%) drops to third place above Peugeot (+62.2%) and Nissan (+19.7%). The rest of the Top 10 all outpace the market, with JAC (+162.4%) the most dynamic followed by Mitsubishi (+156.8%), Toyota (+92%), Ford (+73.4%) and Hyundai (+66.3%). Below, Renault (+397.3%), Maxus (+163.7%), Jeep (+140.2%) and Changan (+108.6%) stand out. As a whole, Chinese carmakers shoot up 111.9% year-on-year to hold 31.4% of the Chilean market vs. 28.8% over the Full Year 2021.

Model-wise, the Chery Tiggo 2 (+107.4%) reclaims the top spot it held over the Full Year 2021 thanks to a spectacular uptick, as is also the case for the Mitsubishi L200 (+156.2%) and Peugeot Partner (+144.6%). In 4th place, the Kia Morning (+60.3%) also outpaces the market with the Nissan Versa, Toyota Hilux (+244.8%), Maxus T60 (+195.1%) and Ford Territory (+612.2%). The Toyota Yaris and Suzuki Dzire complete the Top 10, for the latter a first incursion among the 10 best-selling cars in Chile. Notice also the Chery Tiggo 2 Pro appearing at #20, the Great Wall Poer up to #22 and the MG ZS, #2 over the FY2021, down to #23.
