New car sales in Austria rebound back up 10.5% year-on-year in January to 15,619 units, however January 2021 was a particularly low base, down -38.4% on the year prior. Volkswagen (-3.7%) go against the positive trend but easily retains the brands top spot with 17.3% share vs. 15% over the Full Year 2021. Skoda (+21.6%) remains in 2nd place but climbs to 10.3% share vs. 9.1% over the FY2021. Audi (+44.8%) does even better and is up 9 spots on December to #3 overall with 8% share vs. 5.2% in FY2021. All remaining Top 10 brands bar BMW (-20.7%) beat the market, with Dacia (+180.3%), Toyota (+134.9%), Kia (+77%) and Peugeot (+64.4%) the most dynamic followed by Ford (+25.1%) and Mercedes (+15.9%). Further down, Cupra (+273.5%) is up to #14 in-between Hyundai and Fiat, while Porsche (+124.7%) is up spectacularly.

Over in the models ranking, the VW Polo (-17.1%) goes from outside the December Top 20 directly to first place with 2.9% share, just 8 units above the Dacia Sandero (+159.8%) literally on fire this month. The VW Bus (+65.3%) is also very dynamic and gains five spots on December to #3 ahead of the December leader the Skoda Octavia (-6.1%). The Audi Q3 (+167.9%) and Toyota Yaris (+74.3%) are the only additional year-on-year gainers in the Top 10. Two recent launches point their bonnet inside this Top 10: the VW Taigo at #9 and the Cupra Born at #10. This is estimated to be a world record ranking for both models.
