Slovenia Full Year 2021: Renault Clio resists VW T-Cross assault in market up 0.6%

The Slovenian new car market only edges up 0.6% year-on-year in 2021 to 53,988 registrations, the 2nd lowest annual result since the 53.296 units of 2014. Volkswagen (-0.8%) is stable and easily holds onto the brands top spot with 15.9% share whereas Renault (-25.5%) struggles to 11.6% vs. 15.6% a year ago. The next five manufacturers all outrace the market, with Kia (+18.9%) and Citroen (+10.8%) the most dynamic, followed by Hyundai (+7.2%), Peugeot (+4.2%) and Skoda (+1.2%). Toyota (+18.3%) and most impressively Ford (+50.5%) also shine in the remainder of the Top 10 whereas Dacia (-12%) is weak. Further down, notice Tesla (+202.4%), Jeep (+116%), Porsche (+71.4%), Mazda (+38%) and Suzuki (+30.6%) posting fantastic gains just as Cupra (+4300%) ends its first full year of sales at #24.
Over in the models ranking, the Renault Clio (-32.6%) freefalls but retains the top spot for an estimated 24th straight year with 4.9% share. It was challenged this year by the VW T-Cross (+63.1%) up 8 spots on 2020 to #2 and #1 in April, June and July. The Skoda Octavia (-5.8%) is down one rank but remains on the podium at #3 ahead of the Renault Captur (-11.5%) staying at #4 The Dacia Duster (+1.2%) is up one spot to #5, while the VW T-Roc (+34.4%) advances 7 ranks to #6 and the Skoda Kamiq (+36.2%) is also up 7 spots to #8. The Fiat 500 (+38.4%), Skoda Kodiaq (+21.6%), Citroen C3 (+23.3%) and Kia Sportage (+75.5%) also impress further down whereas the VW Golf (-47.6%) implodes from #3 to #13. The Opel Mokka (#64) is the most popular 2021 launch above the VW ID.4 (#68) and Hyundai Bayon (#77).
