Bulgaria October 2021: Toyota and Corolla take control of market off -15.1%

The Toyota Corolla is the best-selling vehicle in Bulgaria in October.

New car sales in Bulgaria drop -15.1% year-on-year in October to 2.179 registrations, which means the year-to-date tally is now up 14.8% to 26.187. We are entering turbulent times in both the Bulgarian brands and models ranking as the overall leader, the Dacia Dokker, is now discontinued. Accounting for a large part of Dacia’s sales, this will impact the manufacturer greatly. One logical consequence should be the report of sales towards the Renault Express but we haven’t really seen that happening just yet. For now, Toyota (+12.6%) braves the negative context to step up to first place with 13.5% share, displacing Renault (-1.5%) itself at a strong 12.4% of the market. Ford (+69.1%) is up a further two spots on September to land on the third step of the podium vs. #11 year-to-date while below the year-on-year falls are drastic: Volkswagen (-21.1%) and Peugeot (-31.7%) lose market share year-on-year but the hardest hit is Dacia (-76.8%) feeling the direct effect of the Dokker discontinuation. In contrast, Citroen (+98.2%), Kia (+76.8%) and Hyundai (+67.7%) all do wonders in the current depleted context in the remainder of the Top 10.

As predicted we have a very volatile models ranking. The Toyota Corolla (+14.7%) is up a whopping 8 spots on September to claim the lead for the month at 5% share vs. 3.3% year-to-date, it distances the Nissan Qashqai (-9.8%) and Ford Transit/Custom (+60.9%). The Renault Master (+27.3%) and Megane (+70%) follow, both in outstanding shape as well. The Toyota C-HR (-15.3%) is down year-on-year but up 14 ranks on last month to #6, ahead of the Kia Sportage (+54.8%) and Citroen C3 (+142.1%) securing stellar gains. The Dacia Duster (-65.1%) is in freefall, as is, as expected, the Dacia Dokker (-80.9%) down to #17. The Renault Express is the best-selling recent launch (<12 months) but is down four spots to #14, above the Opel Mokka (#23) and Renault Arkana (#30).
