Austria October 2021: Hyundai Ioniq up to #7 in market freefalling -39.2%

Aggregated sales of Ioniq and Ioniq 5 are good enough for 7th place in Austria in October.

New car sales in Austria plunge -39.2% to just 14,755 registrations in October, the largest year-on-year decline in Europe so far, sending the year-to-date tally into negative territory at -0.1% and 204,636 units. Brand leaders Volkswagen (-50.7%) and Skoda (-58.6%) both lose more than half of their October 2020 volumes but remain on top with 11.4% and 7.3% share respectively vs. 15.6% and 8.8% year-to-date. Kia (-14.6%), Mercedes (-18.2%) and Hyundai (-18.8%) resist best inside the Top 10, with Fiat (-21.7%) and Opel (-31.1%) also gaining share year-on-year. Audi (-39.1%) matches the market but Ford (-45.1%) and Renault (-47.8%) struggle. Further down, Suzuki (-6.6%) contains its loss but we have to wait until #24 and Porsche (+40.5%) to find a year-on-year gainer. Ferrari (+850%), Cupra (+217.6%), Subaru (+136.8%), MG (+75%) and Tesla (+5.1%) are also up.

Over in the models ranking, the Fiat 500 lineup (-3.1%) continues to dominate with 5.6% share, while the Ford Kuga (+26.9%) lurches from outside the September Top 20 directly into 2nd place with 2.1% of the market. All remaining models hold 1.7% share or less, denoting a market almost as fragmented as Switzerland. The VW Bus (-11.7%) is up 8 spots to #3, ahead of the Dacia Sandero (-22.4%) down two to #4. The Opel Mokka slides down one rank to a still very satisfying 5th place followed by the Hyundai Tucson (-18.6%). Hyundai Ioniq and Ioniq 5 sales are counted together in Austria and they are up 215.5% year-on-year to a first Top 10 finish at #7. The BMW X3 (+75.4%), Toyota Yaris (+6.3%) and Kia Ceed (+4.8%) also shine with year-on-year gains in the remainder of the Top 20.
