Romania September 2021: Hyundai (+75.3%), Toyota (+41.8%) ignore market off -17.8%

Toyota RAV4 sales are up 75.3% year-on-year in September.

The Romanian new car market is down -17.8% year-on-year in September to 8.942 units, leading to a year-to-date tally up 4.3% to 88.253. Local behemoth Dacia (-29.2%) falls faster than its home market but posts a solid 27.2% share, in line with its YTD level. The two heroes of the month are Hyundai (+75.3%) and Toyota (+41.8%) both ignoring the depleted context and completing the podium. Toyota is up to #2 year-to-date and Hyundai up to #3. Mazda (+17.1%) is the only additional gainer in the Top 10, as Mercedes (-6.4%) and Ford (-16.9%) resist but Renault (-49.2%), Skoda (-47.8%), Suzuki (-32.4%) and Volkswagen (-28.3%) implode. Further down, Lexus (+185.7%), Ssangyong (+117.6%), Audi (+61.7%), Kia (+36.4%) and Jeep (+27.3%) stand out with stellar year-on-year upticks.

Over in the models ranking, the Dacia Logan (-29.7%) remains the best-seller, the Dacia Sandero (-30.2%) is up one spot on August to #2, overtaking the Dacia Duster (-22.8%). The Ford Puma (+12.7%) is faithful to the 4th spot it holds year-to-date while the Renault Clio (-27.2%) climbs back 12 spots on last month to #5. The Toyota RAV4 (+75.3%), Hyundai Tucson (+42.7%), Hyundai i20 (+32.8%) and Toyota C-HR (+10.5%) also shine in the remainder of the Top 10. The Hyundai Bayon (#36) is the most successful recent launch in Romania.
