Portugal September 2021: Peugeot 2008 scores 4th win of the year in market off -18.2%

The Peugeot 2008 is the best-selling vehicle in Portugal in September.

New car sales in Portugal continue to sink at -18.2% year-on-year in September to just 10.786 units, that’s however a better hold than the -35.8% of August. The year-to-date volume is now up 6.5% to 112.525 sales. Peugeot (+10.8%) defies the negative market to leap up four spots on August to reclaim the lead it holds year-to-date with a strong 13.8% share vs. 11.3 so far this year. Renault (-28%) tumbles down but still holds 10.7% share, in line with its YTD level. Leader last month, BMW (-5.5%) drops to #3 but resists well. Very handicapped by supply issues all across Europe, Mercedes (-43.3%) dives to #4 vs. #2 last month. There are some spectacular gainers in the remainder of the Top 10: Kia (+47.3%), Dacia (+28.3%) and Hyundai (+10.7%) all post fantastic scores in complete contrast with the depleted market. Further down, Land Rover (+181.8%), DS (+133.3%), Tesla (+55.1%), Skoda (+28.3%), Opel (+11%) and Audi (+6.9%) stand out with sizeable year-on-year gains.

Over in the models ranking, the Peugeot 2008 (+84.9%) brilliantly takes the lead for the fourth time this year with a stellar 7.8% share, advancing to #2 year-to-date in the process. The Renault Clio (-5.3%) rallies back up 16 spots on August to land in 2nd place above the Peugeot 208 (+66.8%) also spectacular and up 31 ranks on last month to #3. Leader in August, the Dacia Sandero (-0.7%) retrogrades to a still splendid 4th place vs. #11 year-to-date. The 2021 leader as of end September, the Renault Captur (-45.2%) is in difficulty this month at #5. Outstanding performances in the remainder of the Top 10 by the Dacia Duster (+246.2%), Tesla Model 3 (+27.3%) and Ford Puma (+22%) while the Citroen C3 (+5.9%) surges back up 72 spots on last month to #9. The Tesla Model Y (#28) is the best-selling recent launch this month, distancing the Hyundai Bayon (#42), Citroen C4 (#43) and Toyota Yaris Cross (#44).
