Chile September 2021: Record market (+33.6%), MG #1 brand for the first time, Chevy Groove #1 model again

MG3 sales are up 93.1% year-on-year in September.

New vehicle sales in Chile gain 33.6% year-on-year in September to 42.627 units, the largest ever monthly volume recorded in Chilean history. It eclipses the previous record of 39.263 established in September 2018 and brings the year-to-date tally up 80% to 297.273. This is also up 2.7% on the same period in pre-pandemic 2019. We have a lightning strike in the brands ranking: MG (+88.3%) is the best-seller for the very first time with a gargantuan 7.8% share, toppling Chevrolet (+13.6%) at 6.9%. Hyundai (+20.6%) climbs to the last step of the podium, knocking Nissan (+44.4%) down to #4. Suzuki (-7.5%) follows ahead of Toyota (+42.9%) and Kia (-5.9%). Chery (+127.5%), Changan (+116.2%), JAC (+131.9%) and Maxus (+229.3%) post the largest gains below, as Chinese brands as a whole are up a whopping 183.7% to 14.138 sales and 33.2% share vs. 27.4% so far this year.

Model-wise, the Chevrolet Groove repeats at #1 with 3.5% share above the Mitsubishi L200 (+79.8%) while the MG ZS (+2.6%) ranks in third place and reclaims the year-to-date lead. The Maxus T60 (+257%) more than triples its year-ago volume and soars 12 spots on August to #4, distancing the Suzuki Baleno (-10.8%), Ford Ranger (+208.6%) and Nissan Versa (+183.2%). Notice also the MG3 (+93.1%) and JAC S2 (+135.7%) making waves in the remainder of the Top 10. The Great Wall Poer is up to #16 and the Ssangyong Grand Musso up to #19.
