Denmark August 2021: VW ID.4 and ID.3 on podium, Audi Q4 in Top 10, market off -10%

The VW ID.4 is up to a record 2nd place overall in August.

Note July 2021 data is also included in the tables below.

The Danish new car market skids -10% year-on-year in August to 15.844 registrations, meaning the year-to-date tally is now up just 0.6% to 125.743 units. Volkswagen (+36%) vigorously bucks the negative trend and top the brands charts with 12.5% share. In fact the entire Top 4 brands are in positive, with Audi (+109.3%) and BMW (+64.9%) the most dynamic and Toyota edging up 1%. In contrast, Ford (-52.1%), Citroen (-50.9%) and Peugeot (-49.3%) all implode. Mercedes (+12%) also shines in the remainder of the Top 10, Hyundai (-0.7%) is almost stable and Skoda (-9.7%) matches the market. Further down, notice Jeep (+268.2%), MG (+160.5%), Seat (+42%), DS (+33.3%) and Volvo (+20.2%) all posting fantastic year-on-year gains.

Model-wise, the Ford Kuga (-66.9%) returns to the top spot it holds year-to-date despite a ghastly year-on-year fall. The big news this month is Volkswagen managing to place the new ID.4 and ID.3 on the podium, both breaking their ranking records this month (ID.4 previous best: #9 last March, ID.3 previous best: #5 in September 2020). Leader in July, the Toyota Aygo (+33.9%) is down three spots to #4 in August, distancing a struggling Citroen C3 (-69%) and a surging BMW 3 Series (+102.9%). Below the Toyota Yaris (-21.7%), the new Audi Q4 breaks into its first Top 10 in the world at #8. The VW T-Cross (+148.7%) and Audi Q3 (+183.5%) also impress further down while the Ford Mustang Mach-E is up 46 spots on July to #13 and the Tesla Model Y lands directly at #17.
