Czech Republic August 2021: Skoda Fabia and Kamiq dominate market dipping -1%

The Skoda Fabia is the best-selling vehicle in the Czech Republic so far this year.

New car sales in the Czech Republic dip down -1% year-on-year in August to 16.449 units, keeping in mind August 2020 was down -33.6% on the year prior. The year-to-date volume is now up 12.4% to 147.659. Local behemoth Skoda (-16.5%) endures the largest year-on-year drop in the Top 8 and sees its market share thaw to 29.7% vs. 34.6% so far this year. In contrast the next three carmakers post fantastic gains: Hyundai is up 28.9%, Volkswagen up 36% and Kia up 42.1%. Toyota (+0.3%) is stable in 5th place above a surging Seat (+102.4%) which delivers the best uptick in the Top 18 and is up three spots on July. The remainder of the Top 10 all skid much faster than the market, starting with Peugeot (-42.9%) with Renault (-15.1%), Dacia (-12%) and Mercedes (-10.2%) faring a little better. Below and in order of sales, Opel (+46.3%), Suzuki (+60.8%), Audi (+16.2%), Mazda (+29.1%), Volvo (+32.6%) and Ssangyong (+259.2%) impress. Newcomer Cupra is up three spots on July to #24.

Model-wise, the Skoda Fabia (+9%) improves its share to 7.9% like last month, cementing its year-to-date lead over the Skoda Octavia (-42.5%) freefalling again this month. In between the two, the Skoda Kamiq (+44.2%) is up one spot to return to a record 2nd place overall at home for the month. The Hyundai i30 (+35.3%) is in excellent shape also but remains in 4th position ahead of the Skoda Karoq (-15.6%) and Scala (-33.9%) both struggling. The Kia Ceed (+25.7%) is up four spots on July to #7, distancing four great performers: the Hyundai Tucson (+17.2%), Dacia Duster (+61.1%) and VW Golf (+167.5%). Both the Skoda Kodiaq (-31.7%) and Superb (-47.8%) perform poorly and are knocked out of the Top 10. Reversely, the Seat Arona (+186.6%), Opel Crossland (+101.8%) and Renault Captur (+70.2%) excel further down. The Hyundai Bayon (#31) is once again the best-selling recent launch.
