Belgium August 2021: BMW leads, Toyota (+7.9%) only gainer in Top 20, market off -25.7%

Toyota is the only year-on-year gainer in the Top 20 in August.

It’s another difficult month for new car sales in Belgium, down another -25.7% year-on-year in August to 27.026 units, keeping in mind August 2020 was already down -24.1% on the year prior. The year-to-date tally is now down -3.5% to 287.013. BMW (-14.6%) resists better than the market to keep the top spot it holds year-to-date at a strong 10.9% share, but both Volkswagen (-8.5%) and Audi (-6.8%) resist even better in the remainder of the podium. Reversely, Mercedes (-38.7%) and Peugeot (-52.4%) are in big trouble. At #6 for the month, Toyota (+7.9%) is up three spots on July and signs the only year-on-year gain in the Top 20. In the remainder of the Top 10, Citroen (-10.9%), Kia (-13%) and Opel (-15.8%) all lose less ground than the market unlike Skoda (-25.8%). MG (+725%), Subaru (+105.9%), Suzuki (+45.6%), Ssangyong (+32.2%), Tesla (+27.9%), Lexus (+14.3%) and Alpine (+9.1%) are among the rare gainers further down. Notice also Lynk & Co up 8 spots to #32 and Aiways up 15 to #38.
