Kuwait January-July 2021: Nissan (+139.1%), MG (+98.9%) stand out in market soaring up 51.6%

Nissan sales soar 139.1% year-on-year so far in 2021.

New light vehicle sales in Kuwait lurch up 51.2% year-on-year over the first 7 months of 2021 to 58.583 units. Brand leader Toyota (+8.5%) vastly trails the market and sees its share thaw from 39.6% over the same period a year ago to just 28.4% now. In contrast, Nissan (+139.1%) more than doubles its sales year-on-year to surge from 7.5% share in 2020 to 11.9% so far this year. Chevrolet (+78.6%) and Mitsubishi (+70.8%) also outpace the market just below while Kia (+42.7%) is a little shy to close out the Top 5. MG (+98.9%) and Ford (+63.9%) also stand out in the remainder of the Top 10 with Honda (+51.6%) matching the market and Hyundai (+42.8%) and Lexus (+25.8%) delivering slower growth. Further down, Geely (+213%), Land Rover (+201.1%), Suzuki (+141.7%), Jeep (+130.9%), Mazda (+115.3%), Renault (+113.8%), GMC (+99.1%) and Changan (+86%) bring on the fireworks. Great Wall (#26), Haval (#27) and Jetour (#37) are new to the Kuwaiti charts.

Model-wise, the Toyota Land Cruiser (+26.2%) halves the market growth but remains the overall best-seller at 7.9% share vs. 9.5% over the same period in 2020. The Nissan Sunny (+258.9%) almost quadruples its sales year-on-year to land in 2nd place with 5.5% share, toppling the Toyota Camry (+17.6%) at 5%. The Nissan Patrol (+168.5%) also posts a spectacular year-on-year gain at #4, ending the period above the Toyota Hilux (+93%) and the Chevrolet Captiva (+265.3%) aka Baojun 530 soaring to #6 overall. Once the overall leader in this market, the Toyota Prado (-54.7%) drops five spots to #7, with the Toyota Hiace (+93.4%) and Mitsubishi L200 (+62.1%) also performing strongly in the remainder of the Top 10. The MG RX8 (+150.6%) leads the Chinese charge at #31 above the MG HS (+137.9%) at #33 and the Changan CS85 (+615.5%) at #34. The Geely Tugella tops recent launches at #55.
