Finland July 2021: Toyota Corolla easy leader, VW ID.4 up to #5

New car sales in Finland backtrack -18.8% year-on-year in July to 7.175 units, leading to a year-to-date tally up 13.1% to 62.336. Toyota (+5.2%) bucks the negative trend to cement its leadership in the Finnish brands ranking with 15.6% of the market. Volkswagen (-9.2%) halves the market fall rate in 2nd place to reach 12.3% share vs. 10.9% so far this year. Kia (+5%) lifts up one spot on June to land on the third step of the podium with 10.5% share, way above the 7.4% it commands year-to-date. Below, Skoda (-35%) and Volvo (-36.8%) freefalls, Mercedes (-17.7%) contains its loss to just below the market rate and Ford (-31.3%) and Hyundai (-31.9%) struggle. BMW (+22.2%) posts the largest gain in the Top 10 while Audi (-8.7%) keeps its fall in the single-digits. Below, Fiat (+200%), Land Rover (+200%), Lexus (+53.8%), DS (+50%), Dacia (+26.8%), Mazda (+1.2%) and Suzuki (+1%) shine with year-on-year gains.
Over in the models ranking, the Toyota Corolla (+24.1%) sails into the distance at 6.3% share vs. 3.8% for the #2, the Toyota Yaris (-33.4%). The Skoda Octavia (-50.8%) takes a tough hit but remains in third place, meaning the podium is identical to the year-to-date order. The Kia Rio (+38.8%) leaps up 5 spots on June to land at #4 while the new VW ID.4 is up two to a record 5th place. The Toyota RAV4 (+60.2%) also impresses at #7 while the Volvo V60 (-16%) rallies back up 18 spots on last month to #8, losing slightly less ground than the market year-on-year. Below, the VW Tiguan (+128.2%), BMW 3 Series (+32.3%), Kia Stonic (+17.4%), Toyota C-HR (+13%) and Peugeot 2008 (+8.2%) defy the negative environment with solid year-on-year upticks.
