The Russian new light vehicle market is up 28.7% year-on-year to 157.808 units, leading to a year-to-date tally up 36.9% to 840.749. Note June 2021 volumes are also up 9.8% on pre-pandemic June 2019, indicating the Russian market has recovered nicely so far. 45.9% of the year-to-date tally goes to SUVs thanks to 399.822 sales, 5.8% goes to LCVs at 50.936, 0.5% goes to pickup trucks at 4.223 and 552 BEVs were registered over the period. In the brands ranking, Lada (+43.1%) frankly outpaces the market to reach a strong 25.4% share vs. 23% so far this year, that’s more than double any other carmaker in the country. Hyundai (+43.6%) is also very solid and overtakes sister brand Kia (+10.5%) to take the 2nd spot for the month. Renault (+23.9%) remains in 4th place above Volkswagen (+35.3%) and Skoda (+38.2%) exchanging spots compared to May. Toyota (+2.4%) and Nissan (-3.9%) disappoint.

Once again Haval (+143%) is easily the largest gainer in the Top 10 and breaks records this month: volume (3.509) for the 4th straight month and share (2.2%) for the 5th month in a row, also equalling its ranking record (#10) for the 4th consecutive month. And once again Chery (+348.4%) progresses even faster year-on-year but is down slightly over the past couple of months, still equalling its ranking record at #11. Keep in mind BMW and Mercedes don’t share monthly volumes anymore as they only report quarterly and would traditionally rank inside the Top 10 or thereabouts. Other very strong gainers this month include Opel (+966.7%), Peugeot (+202%), Citroen (+154.3%), Genesis (+137%), Subaru (+124.5%), Geely (+98.6%), Volvo (+78.8%) and Audi (+76.5%).

Over in the models ranking, the Lada Granta (+23.1%) holds onto the top spot above the Lada Vesta (+41.3%) in better shape. The Hyundai Creta (+14%) hits its highest ranking since July 2020 at #3 as the new generation starts trickling down. It also reclaims the SUV crown off the Lada Niva. The Hyundai Solaris (+89.1%) takes full advantage of its new generation with a splendid year-on-year gain but remains at #4. The Kia Rio (-18.3%) on the other hand is struggling and drops two spots to #5 ahead of the VW Polo (+21.8%) and Lada Niva (+27.6%). The Skoda Rapid PA II (+221.1%) now over a year old, Hyundai Santa Fe (+152.6%) thanks to the new generation, Renault Duster (+90.7%) finally benefitting from a new model and Lada Largus LCV (+108.1%) also perform very well further down the ranking. The best-selling recent launch (<12 months) is the Kia K5 edging up one spot on last month to a best-ever #12. Notice also the Kia Seltos at #19 and the Renault Arkana at $22.
