Norway June 2021: Tesla Model 3 regains control of market up 78.2% to record month

The Tesla Model 3 is the best-selling vehicle in Norway in June and H1 2021.

New car sales in Norway continue to gallop ahead in June at +78.2% year-on-year to score a record June volume at 20.392 units. This leads to a year-to-date tally up 41.7% to 83.930. BEV sales are up 161.5% to 13.184 and 64.7% share vs. 44% a year ago, PHEV is up 62.5% to 4.139 and 20.3% share vs. 22.2% a year ago and HEV is up 31.5% to 1.400 and 6.9% share vs. 9.3% in June 2020. All in all, electrified sales are up 116.4% to 18.723 and 91.8% share vs. 75.6% in June 2020. This is the second highest electrified share ever in Norway below the 92.5% reached last December. Over H1 2021, BEV is up 68.6% to 48.070 and 57.3% share vs. 48.1% over H1 2020, PHEV up 76.5% to 21.308 and 25.4% share vs. 20.4% and HEV up 3.2% to 5.989 and 7.1% vs. 9.8%. This means the electrified share stands at 89.8% over H1 2021 vs. 78.3% over H1 2020 thanks to 75.367 sales, up 62.6% year-on-year. Accordingly, petrol sales drop to 3.8% share in June and 5.1% YTD while diesel is down to 4.4% for the month and also 5.1% YTD.

In the brands ranking, Tesla (+470.9%) is up 10 spots on May to easily snap the pole position, dislodging Toyota (+118.2%) while Volkswagen (+33.9%) remains in third. Ford (+324.1%) and BMW (+193.6%) also outpace the market but the rest of the Top 10 isn’t that lucky, with Hyundai (+4.2%) and Volvo (+17%) faring the worst. Below, Polestar (+5566.7%) celebrates one year in market, while Fiat (+493.3%), Mini (+157.1%) and Lexus (+136.6%) shoot up. Model-wise, the Tesla Model 3 (+506.5%) regains control of the charts both for the month with a surreal 15.7% share but also year-to-date at 7.5% share (+249.3%). The podium is 100% BEV with the Ford Mustang Mach-E down one spot on May to #2 and the Skoda Enyaq remaining in third place. Below the Toyota RAV4 (+598.7%), the VW ID.4 rounds out the Top 5. Notice also the Mercedes EQC (+120.5%) at #8 and the BMW iX3 breaking into the Norwegian Top 10 for the first time at #9.
