Czech Republic June 2021: Skoda Kamiq up to record #2 in market up 8.6%

The Skoda Kamiq breaks its ranking, volume and share records in June.

New car sales in the Czech Republic are up 8.6% year-on-year in June to 22.561 units and also up 3% on pre-pandemic June 2019. H1 2021 volumes are now up 18.7% year-on-year to 112.805. Skoda (-9.8%) goes against the grain with a sizeable fall to 33.8% share vs. 35.1% so far this year. Hyundai (+62.5%) overtakes Volkswagen (+35.8%) for 2nd place overall while Toyota (+44.7%) remains at #4 and now also ranks #4 year-to-date. Seat (+66.4%), Mercedes (+37.5%) and Kia (+37.1%) also vastly outpace the market in the remainder of the Top 10 whereas Dacia (-35.6%) and Renault (-31.8%) are in difficulty. Below, notice Nissan (+97.6%), Mazda (+71.8%), Tesla (+47.6%), Lexus (+40.5%), Audi (+38.5%) and BMW (+28.2%) all very solid while newcomer Cupra is up 5 spots on last month to #22.

Over in the models ranking, the Skoda Fabia (-17.8%) reclaims the top spot for the first time since February despite a steep fall, snapping the year-to-date pole position in the process. The Skoda Kamiq (+38.4%) breaks all its records this month at #2 (previous best: #3), 1.511 sales (previous best: 1.092) and 6.7% share (previous best: 5.5% last month). It notably distances the Skoda Octavia (-44.4%) for the first time as the latter loses the YTD lead this month. The Hyundai i30 (+129.6%) lodges a spectacular year-on-year gain to remain the best-selling non-Skoda in the market. The Skoda Karoq (+19%) and Scala (+10.8%) follow, both outpacing their home market. We also have outstanding performances by the VW Golf (+230.6%) and Hyundai Tucson (+49.1%) in the remainder of the Top 10.
