Brazil June 2021: Fiat, Toyota, Jeep and Chery stun in market up 38.2%

The Fiat Strada is the best-selling vehicle in Brazil in June.

The Brazilian new light vehicle market bounces back up 38.2% year-on-year in June to 169.589 units, leading to a year-to-date tally up 31.9% to 1.006.685. However June 2021 volumes remain significantly down on the pre-pandemic levels of June 2019 at -20.5% vs. 213.438 registrations then. Fiat (+167%) posts another outstanding result and climbs to a whopping 26.2% market share, its highest in at least a decade. This month Fiat almost sells double any other carmaker in the country, with Volkswagen (+3.8%) shy in 2nd place with 13.4% share. At 9.9% of the market, Hyundai (+46.4%) hits its highest share since March 2017 (10.1%) while Toyota (+114.7%) and Jeep (+84.4%) both reach all-time record shares at 9.7% and 8% respectively. Renault (+33.5%) trails the market but is up to #6 whereas Chevrolet (-41.1%) continues to completely implode, down 4 ranks on May to #7 and 6.9% share vs. 12.4% so far this year. Chery (+207.5%) confirms it is now a Top 10 carmaker in Brazil and breaks its share record at 1.9%, with Peugeot (+279.9%), Citroen (+116%) and Ram (+94.8%) also in great shape further down.

Over in the models ranking, the Fiat Strada (+153.8%) reclaims the top spot it holds year-to-date thanks to a fantastic year-on-year gain, but two additional Fiats near the top of the charts perform even better this month. The Argo (+212.4%) and Mobi (+186.2%) both triple their sales year-on-year and end the month at #2 and #4 respectively. A lukewarm Hyundai HB20 (+31.4%) ranks at #3 and prevents the podium from being 100% Fiat for the second month running. The rest of the Top 10 all vastly outpace the market, with the Fiat Cronos (+393.1%) the most impressive, signing a first ever Top 10 finish at #10. The Fiat Toro (+95.1%), Jeep Compass (+87%), Renegade (+83.4%), Hyundai Creta (+80.1%) and Renault Kwid (+71.5%) also shine. Among recent launches, the Toyota Corolla Cross is up three spots on last month to #12, the VW Nivus is up two to #19, the Chery Tiggo 8 up four to #45, distancing the Mercedes GLB (#59), VW Taos (#61), Ford Territory (#62) and Nissan V-Drive (#63).
