Belgium May 2021: BMW (+35.7%) leads again, Audi (+48.8%) shines in market up just 0.3% year-on-year

Audi sales are up 48.8% year-on-year in Belgium in May.

New car sales in Belgium edge up only 0.3% year-on-year in May to 34.836 registrations, which means it is down -31.8% on pre-pandemic levels of two years ago in May 2019 (51.081). The year-to-date tally is now up 13.1% to  189.466 but down -27.2% on the same period in 2019. BMW (+35.7%) flies solo atop the brands charts and makes it five consecutive months at #1 with 11% share vs. 10.7% so far this year. Volkswagen (+3%) is a solid #2 at 9% share vs. 8.9% while Audi (+48.8%) scores the largest gain in the Top 30 and climbs one spot on April to #3 overall with 8.7% share vs. 6.6% year-to-date. Skoda (+25.7%) and Mercedes (+1.4%) are also up in the remainder of the Top 10 but the rest is in negative, with Renault (-29.2%) and Citroen (-13.9%) hit the hardest. Below, notice Hyundai (+29.1%), Porsche (+28.8%), Jaguar (+17.4%), Seat (+13.6%), Alfa Romeo (+12.5%), Mini (+11.6%) and Tesla (+10.2%) all scoring double-digit gains in a stable market.
