Vietnam April 2021: Thaco-Kia and Hyundai Accent leaders in market up 155.6%

The Hyundai Accent is the most popular vehicle in Vietnam in April.

According to local manufacturers association VAMA, new car sales in Vietnam soar 155.6% year-on-year in April to 30.065 units, leading to a year-to-date tally up 56.6% to 101.309. These figures climb to 39.320 for the month and 133.007 year-to-date when adding Hyundai and VinFast who report separately from VAMA.

Thaco-Kia (+144.4%) reclaims the top spot it holds year-to-date with 17.9% share, in line with its 17.7% level so far this year. Hyundai is down to #2 with 16.6% of the market ahead of Toyota (+99.7%) at 14.2%. Mitsubishi (+273.1%) almost doubles the market growth rate and lifts two spots to return to the #4 position it holds year-to-date. Local carmaker VinFast is also back to its YTD level, up four ranks on March to #5 and 6.9% share. Peugeot (+529.7%), Ford (+265.2%) and Isuzu (+197.4%) also shine further down.

Over in the models ranking, the Hyundai Accent (+247.9%) returns to the pole position it also holds year-to-date with 5.5% of the market as the traditional leader, the Toyota Vios (+76.3%) is also up one spot on last month to #2 but still lags at #3 so far in 2021. The VinFast Fadil is back up three ranks on March to close the podium, distancing the Mitsubishi Xpander (+298.2%) and last month’s leader the Ford Ranger (+210%). The Kia Seltos tops recent launches at #6, two spots below its March ranking, and is followed by the Toyota Corolla Cross down four to #9. Notice also strong showings by the Ford Everest (+693.2%), Honda City (+365.2%) and Mitsubishi Attrage (+248.8%).
