Oman January-April 2021: MG up to #4 brand, Toyota Hilux best-seller in market up a shy 7.8%

MG is up to #4 brand in Oman so far in 2021.

New car sales in Oman edge up 7.8% year-on-year over the first four months of 2021 to 27.636 units vs. 25.647 over the same period a year ago. Toyota tightens its grip on the Omani market even further, going from 45.3% over the Full Year 2020 to 48.1% now. In contrast, Nissan dives from 25% to just 14.1% so far in 2021. Hyundai improves to 5.2% share and gains two spots to #3 while MG more than doubles its share to 5.1% and leaps up three ranks on FY2020 to #4 overall, its highest ranking in the Middle East. Lexus and Kia both drop two spots to #5 and #6 respectively. Honda is up three ranks to #8 and Changan up 15 to #15.

Model-wise, the cards are redistributed this year with the Toyota Hilux advancing to the pole position with 14% share vs. 10.1% over the Full Year 2020 when it ranked #3. Leader in 2020, the Nissan Sunny drops to 2nd place with 11% vs. 13% and the Toyota Land Cruiser Pickup also edges down one spot to #3 with 11% vs. 10.6%. The market is consolidating on trusted nameplates as the three models on the podium hold 36% of the Omani market so far in 2021 vs. 33.7% in 2020. The Toyota Land Cruiser remains in 4th place, distancing the Toyota Fortuner, Lexus LX and Toyota Corolla. The Hyundai Tucson soars 12 spots to #10 and the MG5 is up 13 to #11.
