Brazil March 2021: Fiat Strada now #1 year-to-date in market back up 13.7%

The Fiat Strada topples the Chevy Onix as the YTD best-seller.

As March 2020 corresponded to the first week of lockdown measures, this year the Brazilian market is back up 13.7% year-on-year to 177.109 units, leading to a year-to-date tally down -6.5% to 497.885. However the March 2021 level remains below that of March 2019 (199.550) at -11.2%. Fiat (+60.5%) continues to vastly outperform the market and improves its share to 21.5%, its highest since August 2014 (21.7%) after falling to a poor 11.4% three years ago in February 2018. Volkswagen (+29.5%) more than doubles the market growth rate to reach 18.4% share just as Chevrolet (-8.9%) is in serious trouble at just 13.1% share vs. 15% so far this year.

Jeep (+50.5%) and Hyundai (+28.8%) also shine in the remainder of the Top 10 whereas at the other end of the scale Ford (-70.1%) and Nissan (-9.7%) struggle. Just outside the Top 10, Chery (+27.3%) progresses to 1.4% share, a record high level it also reached last December and January. Peugeot (+114.6%), Porsche (+82.5%), Volvo (+56%), BMW (+43.8%), Mitsubishi (+32.2%), Land Rover (+29.3%) and Citroen (+24.5%) also shine further down.

In the models ranking, the Fiat Strada (+114%) more than doubles its sales year-on-year thanks to the new generation to lead the charts outright for the second time in the past 7 months after last September. More notably, the Strada also takes the YTD lead off the Chevrolet Onix (-33.9%) in freefall for just 110 sales. The Hyundai HB20 (+13.8%) follows the market and advances one spot on last month to #2. Outstanding performances also by the Chevrolet Tracker (+236.1%), Fiat Mobi (+90.7%), Toro (+86.4%) and Hyundai Creta (+77.2%) in the remainder of the Top 10.
