Austria March 2021: Tesla Model 3 best-seller in market rebounding 177.1%, down -7.6% on two years ago

The Tesla Model 3 is the best-selling vehicle in Austria in March.

Last year, Austria was one of the first countries in the world to go into a Covid-19 lockdown and new car sales were down 66.7% as a result. This time, registrations logically bounce back up 177.1% to 29.526, tilting the year-to-date tally back into positive at +16.2% and 63.522 units. Note March 2020 volumes remain down on pre-pandemic March 2019 at -7.6% while Q1 2021 is down -21.4% on Q1 2019. Volkswagen (+168.2%) almost matches the market to comfortably remain in the brands top spot with 14.4% share but Skoda (+100.8%) isn’t that lucky at #2. In fact the entire Top 5 brands replicate the YTD order, with Seat (+260.1%) making the podium 100% VW Group ahead of BMW (+105.1%) and Ford (+192.5%). Opel (+343.5%), Renault (+244.8%) and Mercedes (+190.1%) also outpace the market in the remainder of the Top 10.

Over in the models ranking, the Tesla Model 3 (+203%) shoots up to pole position like a year ago, sporting a scintillating 3.8% share for the month. It climbs to #3 year-to-date vs. #19 over the Full Year 2020. The Fiat 500 lineup (+551.5%) is up almost 7-fold year-on-year to #2 overall, these figures include the 500X and 500L. The Skoda Octavia (+146.9%) drops two spots on February to #3 but remains in the year-to-date lead with 2.8% share. Three Volkswagens follow: the Golf (+172.9%) rallies back up 10 spots on last month to a more fitting 4th place, the Tiguan (+283.2%) is up 11 ranks to #5 and the T-Roc (+177.7%) down 4 to #6. The Ford Puma (+645.5%), Seat Ibiza (+525.6%) and Arona (+332.5%) also excel in the remainder of the Top 10 just as the Opel Crossland (+600%), Suzuki S-Cross (+587.8%) and Vitara (+1652.6%) make rare appearances inside the Austrian Top 20.
