The Mexican new light vehicle market sinks another -21.1% year-on-year in February to 82.323 units, leading to a year-to-date tally off -21.8% to 163.526.  Brand leader Nissan (-19.2%) manages to keep its loss below the market rate and improves its share to 21.9% whereas followers Chevrolet (-32.8%) and Volkswagen (-21.9%) both fall faster than the market. Below, Mazda (-9.9%), Toyota (-13.3%), Kia (-18.4%) and Hyundai (-19.8%) resist but Ford (-24.5%) isn’t that lucky and Honda (-43.2%) implodes. The hero of the month is Suzuki, up 21.3% year-on-year and two spots on January to #8 with 3.7% share, and is now up 10% so far this year, thanks to one particularly successful model as we’ll see below. Further down the charts, Volvo (+23%), Fiat (+14.2%), Subaru (+13.9%), Buick (+9%) and JAC (+6.2%) are among rare gainers.

Over in the models ranking, Nissan monopolises the podium for the second month running with the Versa (-33.7%) in trouble but still leader above the Pickup (+10.5%) and March (-6.9%) both posting solid scores. The Chevrolet Beat (-43.3%) climbs back up to #4 but suffers heavy year-on-year losses as does the Chevrolet Aveo (-62.2%) at #6. The Chevrolet Onix (+32.2%) continues to gear up year-on-year but is down 4 ranks on last month to #8 while the Kia Seltos (+58.8%) scores its second ever Top 10 finish after last October at #10. Among recent launches, the Chevrolet Tracker is down 3 spots on January to #18 and the Suzuki Jimny is up a whopping 51 to break into the Mexican Top 20 at #19 with over 1.000 sales for the month.
