Poland Full Year 2020: Toyota overtakes Skoda to #1 brand, Octavia remains #1 model in market down -22.9%

New car sales in Poland drop -22.9% year-on-year in 2020 to 428.377 units. Private sales are down -28% to 117.296 and 27.4% share vs. 29.3% in 2019 while fleet sales drop a more contained -20.8% to 311.081 and 72.6% share vs. 70.7% last year. Toyota (-2.3%) manages to stabilise its sales, increase its share by three percentage points vs. 2019 to 14.3% and overtake Skoda (-17.9%) to claim the pole position for the year. Volkswagen (-30.9%) underperforms but stays in third place while both Kia (-18%) and Renault (-23.8%) step up three ranks to #4 and #5 respectively. Mercedes (-6.8%) and BMW (-11.6%) also post very solid holds in context in the remainder of the Top 10. Below, Audi (+13.2%), Lexus (+12.6%), Tesla (+68.1%), Bentley (+9.4%) and Lamborghini (+15.2%) are among rare gainers while newcomer Cupra lands at #36.

Over in the models ranking, the Skoda Octavia (-8.4%) scores a third consecutive annual win and 10th in the past 12 years and keeps its year-on-year loss to the single-digits thanks to the new generation. Despite having all the momentum at the start of the year, the Toyota Corolla (-11.1%) remains in 2nd place in 2020 ad improves its share to 4.1%. The Toyota Yaris (+9.3%) signs the only uptick in the Top 5 up two ranks to #3 and followed by the Dacia Duster (-15.5%) and Skoda Fabia (-29%). The Toyota RAV4 (+39%) is the biggest gainer in the Top 10, up 13 spots to #6 with the Toyota C-HR (+8.3%) also up at #9.

For the second consecutive year we can share with you an exclusive Private Sales models ranking, a good indication of what the Polish customer really wants. The Toyota Yaris (+11.4%) topples the Dacia Duster (-33.8%) to snap the top spot while the Toyota Corolla (-25.3%) remains in third place. A favourite of private Polish customers is the new generation Toyota RAV4 (+51.4%) soaring from #17 to #4 overall whereas the Skoda Fabia (-39.3%) is in great difficulty at #5. Other notable successes with private customers are the Skoda Kamiq (+317.9%) at #9, the Hyundai i20 (-13.3%) at #14, the Kia Stonic (-5.8%) at #16 and the Renault Captur (-10.5%) at #19.
