New Caledonia (France) January 2021: Subaru XV up to #3, FAW Bestune X40 #7 in market down -15.5%

The Subaru XV is up to #3 in New Caledonia in January.

New car sales in New Caledonia, a French overseas territory whose registrations are counted separately, are down -15.5% to 496 units in January. Toyota (-13.3%) keeps its fall just below the market rate but sports a weak 13.1% share vs. 16.9% over the Full Year 2020. Dacia (-31.3%) is struggling this month while Peugeot is stable and reclaims the #3 spot it holds year-to-date. Subaru (+25%) shoots up 7 ranks on last month and its FY2020 ranking to land at #4, with Nissan (+15.8%) and Kia (stable) also strong. Among the Chinese brands recently arrived in New Caledonia, MG is up to #14, FAW up to #15, Dongfeng up to #21, Kaicene up to #22 and Changan remains at #23.

In the models ranking, the Dacia Duster (-14.3%) holds onto the top spot ahead of the Toyota Hilux (+64.7%) while the Subaru XV (+5%) is up 10 spots on last month to land on the third step of the podium and the Toyota RAV4 (-5.3%) is up 11 to #4. The Peugeot 3008 soars 85.7%, the FAW Bestune X40 is back up 18 ranks to #7 and Isuzu D-Max (+175%) and Mitsubishi ASX (+25%) also shine in the remainder of the Top 10. Among Chinese models, the MG ZS is up to #14, the Changan/Kaicene F70 is up to #17, the Dongfeng Joyear X5 up to #28 and the MG RX5 up to #30.
