Morocco Full Year 2020: Dacia monopolises podium in market off -20.9%

Dacia Lodgy sales are up 158.2% coinciding with the renewal of the country’s taxi fleet.

The Moroccan new light vehicle market skids down -20.9% year-on-year in 2020 to 133.267 units. Local producer Dacia (-17.1%) tightens its grip even further on the Moroccan brands charts, improving its market share from 27.3% to 28.6%. At the same time, sister brand Renault (-32%) sees its share thaw by two percentage points to 12.4%. Hyundai (-13.4%) overtakes Peugeot (-26.1%) to land at the third step of the podium while Volkswagen (-23.3%) remains in 5th place. Opel (+44.1%) is the only gainer in the Top 10, up a spectacular 44.1% and 5 spots to #6. Below, Dongfeng/DFSK (+69.5%) just misses out on a Top 10 finish at #11, Kia (+44.3%) is up to #15 with Porsche (+35.3%) and Mahindra (+102%) the only additional brands up.

Model-wise, the Dacia Dokker (-19.5%) roughly follows the market for a stable 7.8% share and celebrates three consecutive years in the Moroccan pole position. This year Dacia monopolises the podium with the Sandero (-20.3%) up two spots to #2 and the Logan (-27.8%) down one to #3. The Renault Clio (-37.3%) is down two ranks to #4 whereas the Dacia Lodgy (+158.2%) multiplies its 2019 volume by 2.5 thanks potentially to bumper sales to taxi companies. The Duster (-37.1%) ensures the entire Dacia lineup fits within the Top 6, a new record. Further down, the VW Tiguan (-6.5%) breaks into the Top 10 at #10, the Opel Corsa is up 10-fold to #14, the Renault Master up 10.1% to #16 and the Hyundai i20 up 34.6% to #17.
