Belarus Full Year 2020: Geely (+33.4%) teases Lada (-36.5%) for #1 brand in market off -18.2%

New light vehicle sales in Belarus drop -18.2% year-on-year in 2020 to 52.768 units. Lada (-36.5%) keeps the brands pole position despite a steep fall and sees its share thaw from 25.2% last year to 19.6%. In contrast local producer Geely (+33.4%) lifts two spots to #2 with its share soaring from 10.7% to 17.4%. 2021 could be the year Geely takes control of the Belorussian brands ranking. Renault (-42.1%) and Volkswagen (-30.1%) lose significant share just below and all remaining Top 10 members beat the market, with Toyota (+30.7%), GAZ (+29.3%) and Hyundai (+0.4%) faring the best. Notice also Citroen (+68.7%) doubling its market share in Belarus.

Over in the models ranking, the Lada Vesta (-38.9%) threepeats at #1 but freefalls three percentage points of share to 8.8%. The VW Polo (-27.4%) also loses share to 8.1% while the Geely Atlas (-2.5%) gains one percentage point to 6.1%. The Kia Rio (+2%) rounds a Top 4 unchanged on 2019. The Renault Logan Stepway (+8.2%) and Geely Emgrand X7 (-0.8%) are both up 4 spots to #5 and #6 respectively, while the Skoda Rapid (-2.9%) is up 5 to #7. The Geely Coolray is by far the best-selling launch of 2020, landing directly inside the Top 10 at #9. Notice also the Geely Emgrand 7 (+29.3%) rising five ranks to end the year just outside the Top 10 at #11, making it four Geelys in the Top 11 vs. just 3 Ladas and the Lada Niva 4×4 back inside the Top 20 at #18.
