Bahrain Full Year 2020: Toyota Land Cruiser posts 7th straight win in market off -17.5%

New car sales in Bahrain are down -17.5% year-on-year to 23.813 units in 2020. Toyota (-15.7%) remains ultra-dominant and improves its share almost one percentage point to 40.5%. In contrast, #2 Nissan (-29.4%) is in great difficulty and drops below the symbolic 10% share mark at 9.2%. Lexus (+12.7%) goes against the market decline and jumps two spots on 2019 to land on the third step of the podium, overtaking Hyundai (-14.3%) and Honda (-45.8%). Isuzu (+5.1%) is up three spots to #5 while MG (+3.2%) edges up one spot on last year to break into the Bahraini Top 10 at #10. Changan (+157.8%) ends its first full year in the Bahrain market at #12 with 1.6% share, distancing Ford, Jeep and Land Rover. Peugeot (+100%), Chrysler (+33.3%), Lincoln (+21.7%) and Hino (+17.5%) are also up further down the charts.
In the models ranking, the Toyota Land Cruiser (-13.8%) aligns a 7th consecutive annual win, improving its market share to 12.1%. This year it is followed by the Toyota Hilux (+32.5%) surging 7 spots year-on-year to #2, the Toyota Prado (-16.7%) remaining at #3 and the Toyota Corolla (-5%) up one rank to #4. The Nissan Sunny (-46.2%) is once again the most popular non-Toyota vehicle in Bahrain but losing almost half its volume year-on-year, it drops 3 spots to #5, just above the Isuzu TF Pickup (+5.4%) up 4 to #5. The Lexus LX (+36.9%) and ES (+16.6%) both post fantastic gains just below, both breaking into the annual Top 10. The Chevrolet Captiva (aka Baojun 530) is the most successful 2020 launch in Bahrain at #32 ahead of the Kia Seltos (#37), Changan Alsvin (#47) and Mazda CX-30 (#65).
