New car sales in Luxembourg drop -17.8% year-on-year in 2020 to 45.189 registrations vs. 55.008 in 2019. Volkswagen (-24.2%) remains the most popular brand in the country but falls faster than the market and loses one percentage point of share from 12.3% to 11.3%. It is under threat by Mercedes (-10.1%) improving almost one point from 9.8% to 10.7%. Mercedes was the #1 brand in the country for four consecutive months from September onwards, and if trends continue the same way in 2021 it could snap the annual lead away from VW. The Top 4 brands are unchanged on last year with BMW (-13.8%) and Audi (-8.9%) both gaining share. Skoda (+11.5%) manages the only year-on-year gain in the Top 10, leapfrogging past Renault (-30.4%) and Peugeot (-30.9%) while Hyundai (-7.6%) breaks into the Top 10 at #10. Further down, MG (+681.8%), Ford USA (+38.2%), Ferrari (+35.6%), Tesla (+26.1%) and Mini (+1.2%) are among rare additional gainers.
