Netherlands October 2020: VW ID.3 triumphs at 8.7% share in market down -6.2%

The VW ID.3 is by far the best-selling vehicle in the Netherlands in October.

New car sales in the Netherlands remain in negative waters in October at -6.2% year-on-year to 31.988 units, leading to a year-to-date tally off -23.6% to 281.668. The entire brands podium outpaces the market with Volkswagen (+11.8%) and Toyota (+12.2%) posting smashing gains while Kia (-0.6%) manage to stabilise its sales year-on-year. Opel (+18.1%) is the only other gainer in the Top 10 at #6 just as Skoda (-18.6%), Renault (-15.2%), Peugeot (-15%), Mercedes (-14.9%), Ford (-13.4%) and BMW (-8.7%) all fall faster than the market. Further down, Mini (+11.9%), Seat (+8.5%) and Volvo (+6.9%) all advance in the remainder of a Top 20 in which Polestar breaks for the very first time at #18 with 1.5% share vs. 0.4% so far this year.

Model-wise, the VW ID.3 shoots up 10 spots on last month to easily grab the October pole position with 8.7% share thanks to almost 2.800 sales. This makes Netherlands the third country in the world to crown the ID.3 after Norway and Ireland last month (and also in October as you’ll see when we publish these markets as well). As a result of this bumper month, the ID.3 also cracks the YTD Top 20 at #19. Still comfortable YTD leader, the Kia Niro (+30.7%) post another very strong score at #2, followed by the Toyota Yaris (+110.4%) and Opel Corsa (+244.2%) both in euphoric shape. The Peugeot 208 (+123.5%), Volvo XC40 (+69%) and Hyundai Kona (+24.3%) also impress in the Top 10. The Polestar 2 is up one spot to crack the Dutch Top 15 for the first time at #15.
