The Kazakh new vehicle market remains oblivious to the Coronavirus crisis, with September sales marking a 5th consecutive month of year-on-year gains at a stellar +62.6% to 10.142 units. This lifts the year-to-date tally up 22.3% to 63.408. Lada (+123.3%) more than doubles its sales year-on-year to reclaim the brands top spot it also holds YTD off Hyundai (+32.5%) which couldn’t quite match the market growth.

Reborn Chevrolet (+2360%) remains in third place with 13.3% share: Through a new joint venture between Allur Group, one of Kazakhstan’s leading auto importers, and Uzbekistan-based UzAvtoSanoat, Chevrolet now locally assembles semi-knocked-down kits supplied by UzAuto Motors, a government-owned automaker that succeeded GM’s defunct JV in Uzbekistan. The plan is to produce up to 100.000 annual units in a few years and export most of it to Russia. More detail on this operation here. JAC (+223%), Kia (+116.5%), Volkswagen (+110.8%) also impress in the remainder of the Top 10.

Model-wise, the Lada Granta (+331.9%) reclaims the top spot it holds YTD while the Chevrolet Cobalt remains in 2nd place overall, distancing the Ravon Nexia R3 (+23.9%), Toyota Camry (+1.1%) and Hyundai Tucson (+17.8%). The Lada 4×4 (+62.1%) matches the market growth but all other Top 10 nameplates “disappoint” given the breakneck speed at which the Kazakh market is growing this month. That includes the Hyundai Creta (+48.8%), Lada Vesta (+40.3%) and GAZ Gazelle (+32.6%).
